Our Mission

Our Vision

To design and develop renewable micro grid energy systems in the rural areas of Nepal through student mobilization

To be the conveyor of knowledge and product developed at KU for the service and use at the community level creating a sustainable circular economy in the region

About Us

GridVille is an interdisciplinary joint NTNU-KU program that aims to design and develop sustainable electricity systems while also providing development assistance to Nepal’s energy deficient rural communities. Constant growth in energy demand and the phase-out of non-renewable energy are posing problems for developing countries such as Nepal.

Our Contributors

The Turbine Testing Lab at Kathmandu University has contributed worth NRP 2500000 (~21000 USD) mechanical equipment to be used in Helambu.
The Norwegian Research Centre for Hydropower Technology (HydroCen) has provided 50,000 NOK (~5000 USD) as a seed fund for the program.

Our Projects

Helambu is located 70 kilometers north of Kathmandu University. Due to critical infrastructure locals are deprived of basic amenities such as electricity. GridVillle-KU plans to develop micro-hydropower of 20kWp capacity in order to enhance electricity availability to be utilized for public purposes.
In 2013, Katmandu University in collaboration with different other Universities installed a Tri- Hybrid System in Thingan, Makwanpur but after 2016 the system is no more functioning. Therefore, GridVille-KU intends to revive the system.

GridVille Programme Kathmandu University and EnergizeNepal, in collaboration with Kathmandu University School of Law, ICIMOD, and CETRF, successfully organized the National Renewable Energy and Policy Symposium (NREPS) 2023 at Hotel Himalaya, Pulchowk Lalitpur on July 30, 2023.
